Our Trustees

  • Nigel Williams

    Chair

Now retired after 35 years in healthcare, I joined Preshal in 2015, became a trustee in 2017, Deputy Chair in 2019, and Chair in 2025.

I’m continually inspired by the team’s dedication and deep connection with clients, which fosters life skills and a strong sense of community. With experience in governance, quality, and human resources, I’m committed to ensuring Preshal continues expanding its vital work in the future.

  • Hermione Thornhill

    President

I got to know Preshal through my mother, Cathy Montrose, its president until her passing in 2014. I fundraised and saw it grow from a small outbuilding to a purpose-built centre. I met many whose lives were transformed. After my mother’s death, May asked me to be president.

With lived experience of mental health and a career in clinical psychology, I value Preshal’s work, and it’s a privilege to be part of its journey.

  • Brett Nicholls

    Treasurer

I’m a New Zealander, married to a Scot, and have lived in Glasgow for 33 years.

As a chartered accountant, I trained with Coopers & Lybrand before moving into economic and social regeneration as finance director for Govan Initiative. I later set up my own consulting practice.

I have been involved with Preshal from the start and now serve as treasurer.

  • Pippa Seabeck

    Trustee

I’ve worked in the water industry for nearly 25 years and now lead Customer and Community work at WGM Engineering. After starting a civil engineering business with my husband in 2010, I’ve enjoyed helping deliver community projects across Glasgow. We were proud to support The Preshal Trust by carrying out construction works for the community garden—a project close to my heart.

  • Gavin Shanks

    Trustee

Born in Kilmarnock and later raised in Corby, I worked across farming, malting, and civil engineering before joining the family business in Glasgow. After helping take the company public and leading a management buyout, I joined The Preshal Trust board in 2002. It’s been a privilege to support its growth and help develop the Drop-in Centre alongside such an inspiring team.

  • Maclain Service

    Trustee

After National Service as a commissioned officer in the Royal Artillery, I worked in insurance and co-founded Service Miller & Co Ltd, qualifying as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. I met May Nicholson while on the board of Glasgow City Mission, and together we co-founded The Preshal Trust in Govan. It’s been a privilege to serve as Chair and remain part of the Board today.

  • Shanny Newal

    Trustee

With a background in Philosophy, Theology, Interfaith Relations, and Human Rights Law, I’ve been involved in interfaith dialogue since 2006. I first encountered Preshal while filming a short piece on May Nicholson for a course and was inspired by its impact. I’ve served on the board since 2012 and deeply value the transformational work of the Preshal family.

  • Kenny Smith

    Trustee

With a background in the building trade and local government, I’ve also worked in residential rehab and led Duke of Edinburgh Award groups on trips to Romania, Moldova, and Uganda. I live on the Isle of Lewis and have long been active in local charities. I’ve served on The Preshal Trust board since 2018 and value its deep, life-changing impact.
